Why Knowledge Brokerage Matters for Albanian Organizations
Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Action
Over the past 15 years, I've worked with organizations across Albania, Europe, and beyond — from universities and NGOs to private companies and public institutions. One pattern I see repeatedly: there is no shortage of knowledge, research, or good ideas. The challenge is making that knowledge actionable.
This is where knowledge brokerage comes in.
What Does a Knowledge Broker Do?
A knowledge broker sits at the intersection of research, policy, and practice. My role is to:
- Translate complex research findings into clear, practical insights
- Connect diverse stakeholders who wouldn't normally interact
- Facilitate learning processes within organizations
- Design experiences that help teams think differently about their challenges
- Co-create solutions that draw on multiple sources of expertise
It's not consulting in the traditional sense. It's more like being a bridge — or, as I like to say, building bridges between knowledge, people, and purpose.
Why Albania Needs More Knowledge Brokers
Albania is at a critical juncture. We have a young, educated population. We have growing connections to European research networks. We have entrepreneurs with ambitious visions. But we also have fragmented ecosystems where academia, business, and government often operate in silos.
Knowledge brokerage helps break those silos. It ensures that the investment in research and education actually reaches the people and organizations who can use it.
Lessons from Arizona
During my 2022 fellowship at the University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI), I saw firsthand how effective knowledge ecosystems work. The university didn't just produce research — it actively connected researchers with entrepreneurs, investors, and community leaders. That's the model I'm working to bring back to Albania.
Moving Forward
Whether you're a startup founder trying to make evidence-based decisions, a public institution seeking innovation, or an NGO designing programs — knowledge brokerage can help you work smarter, not just harder.
